Build confidence through movement
How hopping toys strengthen balance and body awareness
By Sofi Tovey, founder of Mucky Wolf
As a parent and founder of Mucky Wolf, I spend a lot of time thinking about the role toys play in children's daily lives. Not just whether they are fun – but how they contribute to children's development, both physically and mentally.
One thing I keep coming back to is movement.
When children are allowed to use their bodies freely, it's not just about burning off energy. It's about feeling themselves. About finding balance. And about slowly building self-confidence that comes from within.
This is one of the reasons why I love hopping toys so much – and why we are proud to have Find that hippo at Mucky Wolf.
Movement that does more than you think
Hopping toys may look simple. An animal. Something to sit on. Something to bounce on.
But there's much more happening beneath the surface.
When a child starts to hop, their body is constantly working: they hold on, adjust, lean back and forth, and find their balance again and again.
This strengthens core muscles, coordination, and body awareness – that is, the ability to feel where the body is and how it moves.
And it happens completely naturally. Through play. Without instructions.
Self-confidence that grows from within
One of the most beautiful things is to see a child encounter a hopping toy for the first time.
First the curiosity.
Then the caution.
A little hop.
A wobble.
And then suddenly - it flows.
They start to move with confidence, laugh, jump higher, and try things out.
It is in these moments that self-confidence arises.
Not because someone tells them what to do, but because they feel themselves that they can.
Body awareness through play
Body awareness is not something we always think about, but it is crucial for a great deal in a child's development.
From getting dressed and writing to playing with others and feeling safe.
Hopping toys help children get to know their bodies.
How much force is needed?
How do I keep my balance?
When should I stop?
All through repetition and play.
Why it makes sense
Many parents today are looking for toys that do not overstimulate, but still engage.
Here, hopping toys hit on something very special.
It is active, yet calm.
Simple, yet developmental.
And it invites movement on the child's own terms.
Why we chose Find that hippo
At Mucky Wolf, we are very conscious of which brands we bring in.
Find that hippo immediately stood out.
Their bouncing animals and movement toys combine thoughtful design with real developmental qualities. Products like the Lela fox bouncer are both beautifully designed and created to support children in their movement, balance, and self-confidence.
At the same time, their products fit into the home. The colors are calm, the expression is friendly – and it's a toy that is meant to be on display.
Play that lasts
One of the strongest aspects of these products is that they are not just interesting for a short period.
Children return to them again and again.
One day it's quiet play in the living room.
Another day it's speed, laughter, and imaginative games.
It is precisely this flexibility that allows play to evolve with the child.
Conclusion
Self-confidence rarely arises in grand moments.
It grows quietly.
Hop by hop.
As the body learns.
The balance toys from Find that hippo are a reminder that it doesn't have to be complicated.
Sometimes it is precisely the simple movement that makes the biggest difference.
